Does ChatRecap upload my chat anywhere?

Accepted Answer

No. Your WhatsApp export is read and analysed entirely in your browser using JavaScript. The file is never uploaded, sent to a server, or stored on disk. The only outbound request is the optional AI model download, which comes from a public CDN — your chat is never part of that download.

Total messages and words, busiest day, peak hour, longest conversation, emoji diversity, sticker count, longest silence, a daily activity calendar, a message timeline, per-person profiles with achievement badges (Night Owl, Streak Master, Speedster, and more), a word cloud, and — if you opt in — AI-written character profiles, standout moments (funniest, most chaotic, biggest argument, best roast and others), and a vibe summary.

How do I export my WhatsApp chat?

On iOS: open the chat, tap the name at the top, scroll down and tap Export Chat, then choose Without Media. On Android: open the chat, tap the three dots, More, Export chat, then Without media. Send the .txt to yourself and drop it on ChatRecap.

Does the AI need an internet connection?

Accepted Answer

The AI model is downloaded once from a public CDN to your browser cache, then runs entirely on your device using WebGPU. After the one-time download you can run it offline. No prompts or responses are sent to any server.
